About GBAM

History of GBAM

It was in 2005 that German plastic surgeons were invited to São Paulo for the Brazilian National Congress. A strong mutual interest quickly developed between colleagues from both countries, and in the following years Carlos Uebel and Joachim von Finckenstein decided to give this collaboration a formal framework.

Thus, the German Brazilian Aesthetic Meeting (GBAM) was born.

Thanks to Fabio Nahas, Arnoldo Miro, Henrique Radwanski, and many other colleagues in Brazil, as well as Joachim von Finckenstein, Uwe von Fritschen, Torsten Kantelhard, and numerous colleagues in Germany, GBAM evolved into an exciting international meeting – not only for physicians from these two countries, but for plastic surgeons from around the world.

The Germans – without caipirinhas or gracefully curved female silhouettes strolling along warm beaches – asked their Brazilian colleagues what they might enjoy most in Germany. The answer was unequivocal:
“We love your beer and your cars.”

This inspired the slogan “Surf and Curve.”

In Germany, the meetings combine scientific exchange with driving experiences and dinners accompanied by beer, while in Brazil the meetings take place on beaches, with surfing as part of the atmosphere.

Thus, every two years a GBAM is held alternately in Germany and Brazil.
